Maggie Michael - Artists - Luis De Jesus Los Angeles

Maggie Michael (b. Milwaukee, WI) lives and works in Washington, DC. Michael's work has been exhibited across the US and internationally. Her paintings mediate double entendres between existential, linguistic, and political unions. Hailed for bringing a contemporary spin to the Abstract Expressionist movement pioneered in the 1950s, Michael’s works are known for their delicate balance of dynamism and control, as the artist creates an surprising sense of resolution with her striking colors and strokes. Though her career began with poured latex paint, Michael now includes mediums such as spray paint, enamel, charcoal, and ink. Selected exhibitions include: See What You Feel, Pines of Arcadia, MI (2023); Fields and Formations, A Survey of Mid-Atlantic Abstraction, The Delaware Contemporary, DE (2021) and American University Museum, Washington, DC (2022); One on One: Maggie Michael/Arthur Dove, Depth of Field, The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC (2019); Even the Clouds are not Finished DCKEAF, Studio Residency at Camelot, Krakow, PL (2018); Cubes and Pyramids Share the Same Base, G Fine Art, Washington, DC (2017); and A Phrase Hung in Midair as if Frozen, American University Museum, Washington, DC (2016).
