The latest exhibition at MCLA’s Gallery 51 features six artists in the group show “Layer/Build: Collage Explored” on view through April 7.
An opening reception will be held on March 3 from 5-7 p.m.
Collage is the remixing of pre-existing pictures, forms, colors, and surfaces that are brought together to provoke new constellations of meanings. Creativity in all its forms is the remixing of experiences, memories, and innovations. Every act of artistry is a type of collage of revising, rearranging, reworking, layering, and building.
The show features work by Evita Tezeno, Juan Hinojosa, Heather Polk, Brandon Brewer, Todd Bartel, and Niki Haynes. The six featured artists engage with collages quite differently from digital collages viewed on a screen to sculptural collages that interact with the physical space.
