Press Release

Luis De Jesus Seminal Projects is pleased to announce a group exhibition titled United States of Color vs. Grand Theft Auto, on view from January 9 through February 3, 2009.  Participating artists will include Steve Gibson, Maya Hayuk, Geoffrey Todd Smith. An artist’s reception will be held on Friday, January 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.

United States of Color vs. Grand Theft Auto brings together four artists whose works offer up fresh, bold, and sophisticated aesthetic strategies. Whether drawing on historical iconography, personal memories, computer games, or nature, these artists are speaking a new dynamic language that reflects their total immersion in 21st century life—albeit in parallel universes.  Everything becomes a signifier and entry point into their observations and interpretations: dense imagery, complex, fluid geometries, free associations, and unpredictable matrices of order.  The real and the virtual vie for meaning, pushed by the extreme energies of endlessly unfolding psychotropic colors, patterns and ever-shifting light.
