Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is very pleased to participate in Zona Maco 2015 in Booth NP24 from February 4 - 8, 2015 featuring a solo project by Hugo Crosthwaite which takes the form of an immersive environment.
This past August 2014 Hugo Crosthwaite (born 1971, Tijuana, BC) was awarded the Grand Prize at the 2014 Monterrey Biennial for his work titled “Tijuana Radiant Shine #1”. The gallery will be presenting works from this series along with three monumental “CARPAS” banners recently exhibited at the 2013 California-Pacific Triennial, held at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, CA. This will be the first time that these magnificent banners are presented to the public outside of the original Triennial context. Circus lights will illuminate the booth, creating a space in which visitors can enter the dialogue between the works and experience the stimulating sensation of a traditional carpas theater. Each banner measures 365 x 182 cm and features Crosthwaite’s version of one of the stock characters central to Mexican carpas, such as Miss Bala (the damsel/pretty lady), La Narizona (the bourgeoisie/corrupt cop), and the Pelado (urban poor/idot).
