This intergenerational presentation features artworks from the museum’s growing contemporary art collection and a selection of key private loans from the region, with highlights including major works recently acquired by Speed Contemporary and important objects from prominent regional collections. The inaugural installation will be presented in the museum’s historic first-floor galleries adjacent to the visitor entrance, signaling a new direction for the Speed’s program that prioritizes the rich and complex stories of our time. Crosscurrents also seeks to more actively center female-identifying artists, artists of color, and queer artists in a new and belated effort to recognize and celebrate historically marginally voices.
Crosscurrents: Contemporary Art from the Speed Art Museum Collection and Beyond opens on September 16, 2022 and is ongoing.
