Here and Now: Recent Acquisitions honors the many generous contributions from donors and artists that make possible the continued growth of the University of Maryland Art Gallery's permanent collection. Every four years the Art Gallery mounts an exhibition of notable recent gifts and purchases.
Highlights from 2019-2023 include: paintings by Washington Color School artists Paul Reed and Gene Davis from the Bill McGillicuddy collection; significant African art from the Dr. Gilbert and Jean Jackson collection; drawings, prints, photography, and sculptures from the Allan Chasanoff collection; decorative art objects from the Susan M. Yecies collection; and major works by Cordelia Bailey, Christopher Bartel, Hugo Crosthwaite, Brent Crothers, Todd Gray, Jennie C. Jones, Glenda León, Daniela Libertad, Aaron Maier-Carretero, Patrick Martinez, linn meyers, Brent Nakamoto, Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, Jamilah Sabur, Xochi Solis, Maria Sulymenko, Jenny Walton, among many others.
Here and Now is organized by Director Taras W. Matla and Curatorial Assistant Melanie Woody Nguyen, with assistance from Curatorial Assistant Dominic Pearson. Major support is provided by the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is in association with University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative.
An in-person exhibition preview will take place on Wednesday, February 8, 5-7pm.
