Each year, LACP’s community comes together to celebrate and honor those whose work redefines photo-driven practice. This year’s event will bring the photographic and creative communities together for the awards presentation, including an exhibition launch with works by the honorees, followed by a reception.

LACP will honor groundbreaking photographer, performance artist, and writer Harry Gamboa, Jr. He will receive the Alfred Stieglitz Award in honor of his immense contributions to the shaping of visual culture in SoCal, and specifically, the rise of contemporary Chicano.

Gamboa Jr. will also nominate this year’s winner of the Emerging Voices Award, to be announced at a later date.

This year’s JEDI Award (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) will be given to Ken Gonzales-Day, a celebrated artist and scholar, whose impact stretches beyond the space of the photographic image, to include advocacy work with municipal agencies, to public art, walking tours and curatorial projects, all uplifting and focusing on Chicanx and queer bodies in his work.

The Spark Award, given to those who have dedicated their careers to promoting and supporting artists, will be awarded to gallerist Tarrah Von Lintel, who has been promoting photo-based artists in her gallery since 1993.
