Terms of Endearment

Curated by Claire Breukel, Terms of Endearment features artists connected to the 'global south' who work within art systems while pushing against its boundaries. The exhibition references the responses encapsulated in the 1983 film 'Terms of Endearment', which explores family relations, from humor to sadness, deep storytelling to absurdity - this exhibition expands on the word 'term' as a business negotiation, and the word 'endearment' as an economy of caring - an inherent contradiction often echoed in artistic practice. The exhibition includes works by Aprile Bey, Antonia Wright, Emilio Chapela Perez, Fredy Solan, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, Ivan Sikic and Simon Vega and will be on view through June 25th.

The exhibition features five videos from Antonia Wright's series entitled Are You Ok?, an on-going performance piece whereby Antonia Wright goes into the streets and cry while capturing the responses of those passing by. The project explores the concept of social structure and tests our rules of behavior within different systems. The artist considers each performance as a social experiment analyzing empathy and the individuals who may or may not stop to ask her if she is "okay."
