Looking ahead to a world in which a protagonist’s transness is not the crux of their story arc, Southern for Pussy (2015) simply finds a mother and daughter discussing pussy. Written by the performers, Zackary Drucker and Penny Sori (Drucker’s real-life mother), Southern for Pussy is semi-autobiographical and presents an evolved relationship in which honesty has no boundaries. Circling around hot button topics such as online dating, sex, aging, and anatomy, the film proposes an advanced world where transness is incidental and so embedded in everyday life that it’s not even mentioned by name.
